PEMBERTON SUNFLOWER MAZE - 2023

Get lost in a sea of sunflowers blooming at The Beer Farmers for its fifth season

PEMBERTON, B.C. August 1, 2023 - Over 100,000 sunflowers making up a massive maze in Pemberton, 45 minutes north of Whistler, BC, have begun to bloom into a sea of golden yellow. Laughing Crow Organics and The Beer Farmers, the farmers behind the spectacle, are set to welcome guests on August 4, 2023, in the fields next to the brewery.

“We can't believe this will be our fifth year growing The Pemberton Sunflower Maze,” says Kerry McCann, co-founder of Laughing Crow. “Our inspiration was sparked in 2018 when we heard about a sunflower field in Ontario completely swarmed. We knew we could grow something like that, and we have the right space through our partnership with The Beer Farmers to ensure it was a great experience for everyone.”

The maze will open on Friday, August 4, operating daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. until the sunflowers bow their heads for the season, usually by the end of August. Laughing Crow has planted two waves of sunflowers to ensure the fields are in continuous bloom. They will add an additional maze once the first flush of flowers fades. Entry is $9 per person, and entrance for kids under three years old is free. The fields are pet-friendly; dogs must be leashed at all times. As guests get lost in the beauty of summer in full bloom, they will encounter fun photo stations, raised platforms for elevated views, interpretive signs, and poetry.

“This year, we have five varieties of sunflowers, from the classic bright yellow everyone loves to deep browns and burgundy,” says McCann. “We have also reorientated the long rows to better showcase the iconic views of Mount Currie.”

Laughing Crow and The Beer Famers aim to build an appreciation for farming and local produce through the Pemberton Sunflower Maze. “Our goal is to connect people with the land,” says McCann. “Instead of food, the harvest here is the amazing memories guests make on the farm.”

As the sunflowers fade, Laughing Crow keeps the excitement alive. Their Grand Majestic Pumpkin Patch of Pemberton opens at the beginning of October with over 20 varieties of pumpkins, including sugar pumpkins perfect for baking pies and gourds that sound like they sprouted straight from a fairy tale with names like Warty Goblin, Porcelain Princess, and Jade Knight.

Finally, at the end of October, when the nights grow darker, the spent sunflower maze transforms into ‘The Field of Screams,’ a spine-shilling haunted attraction designed by Pemberton local Lisa Bishop, where proceeds are donated to a local charity, to be announced.

Tickets must be purchased online from Laughing Crow Organics’ website. Apart from the sunflower maze, guests can enjoy locally crafted brews and delicious food at The Beer Farmers, a family-friendly brewery offering locally grown and crafted lagers and ales on a fourth-generation organic family farm. The maze is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and The Beer Farmers operates daily from noon to 8 p.m.

About Laughing Crow Organics

Kerry McCann and Andrew Budgell are business partners that found traction in their mutual goals and enthusiasm for Certified Organic Vegetable Farming. Each person was looking for a way to create a livelihood that could give back to the community and allow them to work for themselves while not creating a more significant burden for future generations to inherit. Laughing Crow Organics is the vessel for their mutual ambition. In 2013, with little more than a shoestring budget and an abundance of hope, Kerry and Andrew planted their first seeds. Andrew and Kerry gather inspiration from their surroundings, the food they grow, and the amazing people and businesses who support Laughing Crow's efforts. Laughing Crow Organics Farm is a quality-driven project that never compromises on promises of freshness and variety. They provide delicious organic vegetables and seasonal flowers to hundreds of Sea to Sky residents weekly through farmers' markets, home CSA deliveries, and their farmstand at The Beer Farmers.
